On Monday night October 7th ZZ Top "flipped out with Great Danes" when the band played the Falconer in Copenhagen. Let it be known that the band played the blues and satisfied the crowd. In Denmark ZZ Top have played for 100.000 people at the Roskilde Festival in 1994, 25.000 at a stadium gig in 1991 and about 5.000 at an arena concert in 1998. On Saturday they played for 6.000 people in Aalborg, Denmark (and got six stars out of six in the reviews!) and on Monday night a couple of thousands were waiting for the Texans in the sold out Falconer, Copenhagen. The big mistake was to make a seated concert in American style. In Denmark people normally stand up at a rock concert. Therefore there was some clear confusion in the audience on how to react to the seats. Danes are very polite so it was only at the end people let go of their politeness and started to stand up, jump and dance to the music just like they are just to. Never the less! The band was in a top class shape. Dusty on the right, Billy on the left and Frank in the middle. A stack of amps and a drum kit was all it took. Billy and Dusty thrilled the crowds with their synchronised movements and of course Billy's stories about the Africa-hat. Years ago Billy had his funny looking Africa-hat made at a store in Copenhagen. People loved the band, and when they played "Legs" the crowd went crazy. Well, the support act hasn't been mentioned and why should it. Gary Moore is a great rock guitarist, but when you are warming up for ZZ Top is it then wise to play blues? Is it wise to play Hendrix when you are followed by an act where the singer and guitarist (with Moving Sidewalks) actually have warmed up for legendary Jimi Hendrix? The answers is of course NO! ZZ Top should have done like they did back in '98. At 8 p.m. sharp they went on stage, just as it said on the ticket, and played for two hours! No support act. The crowd was there to see ZZ Top and they loved it! As you can see from the setlist it was 90 minutes of ZZ Top classics although you couldn't help missing some of the "newer" XXX-numbers. And why not present some of the new stuff from the awaited record??? The use of sequencers and keyboards were very limited (as far as I could hear) and so were the special/visual effects that earlier played a big role. Simple and plain. Bad and nationwide! Addendum: Both in Just Got Paid and Dust My Broom Billy played the slide guitar with a small piece of metal pipe. After DMB he went back til Franks drumkit removed the slide pipe and juggled with it before he placed beside his Diet Coke (or Cola Light - I couldnt make it out.) DUST MY BROOM was heard and played in Copenhagen with greetings to Elmore James.
